George A. Place, a cherished family member, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2025, in Palmer, MA. Born on May 1, 1931, in Glen Ridge New Jersey, George lived a full and meaningful life, enriched by his deep love for his family, commitment to his craft, and dedication to his community.
Raising his family in New Jersey, George spent many years in the roofing industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic and membership in the local roofing union. George was actively involved with the Masonic Lodge. A consummate professional, he contributed significantly to the trade until his retirement in 1991, when he and his beloved wife Anna relocated to the tranquil surroundings of Florida.
George was not just a master of his trade but also a man of diverse interests. His passion for woodworking and crafting led him to create beautiful pieces for the Cultural Center of Port Charlotte, a testament to his skills and artistic vision. In his youth, he was an avid bowler. For the past two years after his wife's passing, he moved to Belchertown to live with his daughter and son-in-law.
He took great pleasure in the simple joys of life, such as feeding the birds in his backyard and lovingly tending to his home. George's devotion to his family was paramount, and those who had the privilege of knowing him were always touched by his gentle nature and deep love for those around him.
George is predeceased by his parents, George and Jennie Webb Place, and his beloved wife of 67 years, Anna (n?e Olesfskie) as well as his sister Doris. A future burial will be held at Laurel Grove Cemetery in New Jersey, where he will be laid to rest with Anna, honoring their enduring love and partnership. George's memory will forever remain with his daughter, Debra and her husband, Dr. Robert Fitzpatrick. He also leaves his grand and great grandchildren, Erin Lawson and her husband Jonathan and their son Hunter, Robert Fitzpatrick and his wife Erika and their daughter Hallie, Michael Fitzpatrick and his wife Jessica and their children Ada and Jackson, and Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick and her wife Bailey Fitzpatrick.
