George L. Miller, 97 of Salem, NH formerly of South Weymouth, MA and Brookline, MA passed away on November 23, 2023 at the Crestwood Center, Milford, NH. Born in south Boston, MA to John and Alice (Lundquist) Miller. George served in the US Coast Guard during WWII aboard USS Vance DE 387 whose notable service included capturing a German U Boat U-873.
George worked for Boston Edison for 32 years as an Auto Mechanic and later in Electrical Maintenance. During his later career and into retirement he and his wife Chickie entertained as clown and hobo, Santa and other characters to the delight of special needs children throughout MA and NH. George was also an accomplished magician and balloon twister.
Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the DAV George received recognition for war time service and a disability rating for injuries acquired during his service. Thanks also to the NH VA Hospital for attention to his needs.
George is survived by his daughter, Christine Morse and husband Peter of Northwood, NH, their daughter Caitlin Anne Jones and partner Brendon Driscoll, and great granddaughter Keira Warner of Abington, MA, as well as his son Gary Miller and wife Wayne (Barnes) of Salem, NH and their children Michael Miller and wife Laura (Towne) of Somersworth, NH and Cassandra Miller of Savannah, GA. George was predeceased by his wife - Geraldine "Chickie" Miller in 2014 and his brothers Donald P. Miller and Alfred C. Miller.
Visiting hours will be on December 6th from 2:30-6:30 pm at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St Salem, NH. A funeral service and celebration will be held at Pleasant St United Methodist Church 8 Pleasant St, Salem, NH on December 7th at 10 am, mercy meal to follow.
