George Felix McKinney, 82, of Lenoir City, Tennessee, passed away on February 15, 2021 at The University of Tennessee Medical Center surrounded by family and the love of friends near and far.
George was born on November 23, 1938 in Mansfield Arkansas to George and Virginia Tennessee McKinney. The family relocated to Texarkana, Texas where George attended Texas High and was a member of the football, baseball and basketball teams. He lettered three years in all sports and was tri captain of his football team senior year. All district and all state in football junior year.
After graduation George attended the University of Arkansas and was a three-time letterman at quarterback for head football coach Frank Broyles in 1959, 1960 and 1961, and was a team captain in 1961. After college George coached football for The University of Tennessee, The University of Florida, and Virginia Tech. After coaching, George worked with Lindsey Management
Company and focused on being a wonderful father, grandfather, and friend to all.
George married Lynn Dell McKinney and had two sons, Randall Allen and Mark Douglas. George was preceded in death by parents George and Virginia Tennessee McKinney, sisters Jimmye Jaqueline Bull and Phyllis Jane White, son Randy McKinney, and mother of his children Lynn Dell. Left to mourn his passing are son, Mark (Julie) McKinney: sister Beverly Jeanine Terry; grandchildren, Leah (Jeffrey and Liam) Morris, Jessica Jones, Jordan and Alex McKinney, and Booker and Bennett McKinney. In addition, scores of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends whom he loved with all his heart.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Click Funeral Home in Farragut Tennessee. Interment will follow in Concord Masonic Cemetery.
