George Richard Mageean, 79, of Cicero NY, passed away June 26, 2021. He was born the son of the late James P., and Margaret (McCoy) Mageean on October 22, 1941, in Malone, NY. He was a graduate of Franklin Academy in Malone, NY, and a U.S. Army Veteran. He relocated to Syracuse in 1967 and worked at General Motors. In 1968, he opened George Mageean Used Cars in Cicero, NY and operated his business for 52 years. He devoted 7 days a week to his auto shop and loved dealing with his customers and friends daily. He was passionate about cars, SU basketball, and operating farm equipment. He loved celebrating his Irish heritage by participating in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. George will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Along with his parents, George is predeceased by two brothers, John and Gary and a sister, Sharon.
George is survived by his companion, Patricia LaClair; his two children, Kelly Mageean, and Matthew (Antonia Emmi) Mageean; grandchildren, Grace, Kathryn, Jack, Ava, Saxon, Mason, Gregory, and Nina; his sister, Judy Couch of Arizona; his previous spouse Jeanne (Brand) Mageean; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A Funeral Mass in celebration of George's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Sacred Heart Church of Cicero. Interment with Military Honors will follow in North Syracuse Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in George's memory may be made to Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, 750 E. Adams St. Syracuse, NY 13210.
