George Washington Lawson, 91, Topeka, Kansas, passed away on April, 13, 2021. He was born in Seminole, Oklahoma on April 4, 1930. His parents were Grover A. Lawson and Helen Burger Lawson Donahue. George had two siblings, Mary Lockhart and Grover Lawson. George married Doris Mattocks in Alameda, California on January 12, 1951. They had two children, Steven E. Lawson and Mary E. Lawson.
George served in the U.S. Marine Corp for 20 years, retiring in 1968. While in the Corp, he participated in the Korean War on board the USS Boxer CV-21, served as Drill Instructor at MCRD San Diego; and a recruiter in El Toro, California and Topeka, Kansas.
After retiring from the Marine Corp, George worked as a realtor in Topeka, Kansas.
George was very active at First Southern Baptist where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, taught Bible Study, and sang in the choir.
George is survived by his wife, Doris of Topeka; and two nieces, Linda Driskell of North Carolina and Janice Lawson Brinsfield of Texas.
A memorial service will be held at First Southern Baptist Church of Topeka, 1912 SW Gage Blvd, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 10 a.m.
