George G. Gilmore, 86, loving husband of Mary G. Gilmore for 57 years, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 11, 2021, at MidState Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Meriden, CT, on August 17, 1934, he was the son of the late George and Beryl Gilmore.
George and Mary raised their family in Avon, CT. Upon retirement, they moved to Clinton, CT, where they built their dream home. George was in the food industry rising to a supervisory position at Reckitt & Colman, retiring in the military commissary division. He was a proud member of the U.S. National Guard. He was an avid reader, loved walking his dogs, enjoyed spending time with his family, Red Sox fan, and his political beliefs were known by everyone. He was a wonderful father and loved by all.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his brother, Bruce B. Gilmore and his partner Mark D. Bruzas, his children, G. Gregory Gilmore, Jr. and his long-time companion Dawn McCarthy, Ann E. Gilmore, Catherine L. Gilmore, James B. Gilmore, Ryan L. Gilmore and his wife Natalie, John P. Gilmore and his girlfriend, Amy, who all were his pride and joy. His is also survived by his five grandchildren, Kristen, Amanda, Thomas, Owen and Conor as well as his four great-grandchildren, Atia and Bekim Sejdic and Gavin and Alexander Richter. George loved all his dogs and grand dogs. He was predeceased by his sons, Christopher Gilmore and Peter Gilmore.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 19th at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center Street, Meriden. Everyone is asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E.
