George Day, 90, of Crab Orchard, passed away Friday, March 26th, at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Hospital in Danville. He was the husband of Joetta Marie (Singleton) Day whom he married on May 28, 1949 in Garrard County. George was born in the Cutshin Community of Leslie County on January 14, 1931. He was a son of the late Willie "Poppy" and Martha (Wells) Day. George was a member of the Block Pentecostal Church and was a former Sunday School Teacher. He loved spending time with his family. George was a member of the Lincoln County Cattlemans Association and had served as a Lincoln County magistrate. He was a cattle farmer and enjoyed going to the stockpens and logging.
George is survived by His Wife of 71 years, Joetta Day; Son, Keith Day and his wife, Connie; Daughter, Georgia and her husband, Raymond Brenda; Son, Billy Day; Daughter, Thelma Phelps & Companion Curt Brown; He is also survived by 9 Grandchildren: David (Jody) Day, Daryl (Dawn) Day, Steven (Valerie) Day, Amy Michelle (Rob) Saddler, Raymond Travis (Judy) Brenda, Jessica Marie Fletcher, Carly Suzanne Day, John Michael (Ashley) Phelps, and Kristy (Jonathan) Purcell; 16 Great Grandchildren: Daniel, Royce Ann, Killen, Madelyn, Maggie Grace, Brycen Lee, Mikaela, Zackary, Karrigan, Ashley, Benjamin, London, Atlas, Sydney, Dylan, & Logan; and many nieces and nephews also survive
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by, his Brothers: Oscar & Chester Day
and sisters, Molly Helton, Rose Sparks & Orgie Day
A drive thru visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 28th at McKnight Funeral Home.
Private funeral services will be held for the immediate family with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating. The service will be live streamed on McKnight Funeral Home Facebook page on Sunday at 2:30.
Pallbearers will be David, Daryl & Stephen Day, Travis Brenda, Logan Purcell & Zachary Saddler
The remaining grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers
Interment will be in the Day Family Cemetery
