George Edward Butzin Jr, age 91 of Kokomo, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021, at St. Vincent's Hospital. Kokomo. He was born May 31, 1930, in Peru, IN to the late George Butzin Sr. and Minnie (Bohrts) Butzin. George was a 1949 Graduate of Peru High School.
Stationed in Germany, George served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 until 1953. Upon his return he worked for C & O Railroad until 1958. He held several civil service positions until his retirement from the Army Corp of Engineers in January of 1996. George was a longtime member of the Greenfield American Legion, Post #119, Greenfield VFW, Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard, Greentown American Legion, Post #317, the VFW of Kokomo and the 40 & 8, Kokomo. In his spare time, you could find George watching his favorite programs, NCIS and Chicago P.D. He also loved and played with daily his best friend Teddy, our small poodle.
He is survived by his children, Joni (Al) Andreas, and George E. (Vickie) Butzin III; grandchildren, Jason (Christy) Andreas, Allen (Zahra) Andreas and Michael (Saya) Andreas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, listed above; wife, Jean Knox; and siblings, Ruth Ohmart, Herman Butzin and Helen Sease.
Friends may call 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Faith Lutheran Church, 200 West McKenzie Road, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Funeral service 12:00 pm with Rev. Wm. Daniel O'Connor officiating. Military Rites by the Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard will be held at the church. Private entombment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greenwood.
