George Leon Baker Jr. , 90 Aug 13, 1931 - Sep 7, 2021 George Leon Baker Jr., 90 , of Greencastle, PA, passed away, Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Restore Health, Shippensburg, PA. Born Thursday, August 13, 1931 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late George Leon Baker Sr. and the late Helen Viola (Mullenix) Freshour. He attended Hagerstown High School and received an Associates degree from Hagerstown Community College in 1973. George worked on the Railroad for 12 years and then was employed with the Maryland Correctional Institution of Hagerstown in 1967, retiring in 1994 as a Major. George then went to work for the Washington County Highway Department, taking out road crew of inmates to clean up the highways. He worked there for 20 years, finally retiring at the age of 84. He was a veteran in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. George was a member of the American Legion Post 211 Funkstown for 56 years and the Hagerstown YMCA for 50 years. Being an avid long distance runner, he completed a 5 day run covering 180 miles of the C&O Canal and participated in the JFK 50 mile run twice. George enjoyed reading, especially mysteries, he loved to travel, and dearly loved the beach. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Patricia A. Faust; daughter, Kathy E. Casper of Hagerstown, MD; two step daughters, Vicki Faust of Austin, TX and Linda Moye Short of Clear Spring, MD; grandchildren, Teddy, George, Kenna, Stacy; and great-granddaughter, Ayriana. He was preceded in death by his first wife in 1978, Evelyn Elizabeth Baker. Services will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at 3:00 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Tim Fisher officiating. Masks are optional for both the service and visitation. Family will receive friends at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, prior to the service. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
