George M. Ahearn, 88, passed away October 21, 2022 at his daughter's home in Raymond, NH after a period of declining health. He was born October 16, 1934 in Bad Axe, MI, son of the late Edmund and Annie (Pettie) Ahearn.
George grew up in Kinde, MI on the family farm and was one of eight children in the family. He graduated high school in Bad Axe, MI and later earned his civil engineering certification. George met Eleanor Nota through mutual friends. They dated for a year and got married in 1955. George was a longtime employee for United Engineers and Constructors based in Philadelphia, PA, which is now a division of Raytheon. He travelled extensively all over the United States building power plants including nuclear. George was very well respected in the industry and was often called in to troubleshoot the most difficult problems. He worked on many projects including in Longwood in Boston to power the 5 main hospitals, Three Mile Island in PA, WPPSS in WA, Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant in NH and Clear Air Force Station, Alaska.
Because of the travel in his job, George and Eleanor lived in many different states. He was a longtime proud member of the Robertsville, NJ Volunteer Fire Department and he belonged to the Knights of Columbus. George was a member of the Lions Club and was a supporter of the Raymond Youth Athletic Association. He and Eleanor loved square dancing and George could often be found on his Kubota Tractor as he was a farm boy at heart.
He was predeceased by his loving wife. Family members include, son James Ahearn, predeceased son, Thomas Ahearn and his wife, Carla, predeceased infant son, Steven Ahearn, daughter, Colleen Forsythe and her husband, John, predeceased infant daughter, Ann Ahearn, grandchildren, Connor Ahearn and his wife, Megan, Sean Ahearn and his wife Katie, Joseph Nash and his wife, Meredith, Ian Forsythe and his wife, Zulfiya, Michael Ahearn and his wife, Noel, Caitlin Bennett and her husband, Michael, Sheamus Ahearn, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Cora Lovik, and numerous nieces and nephews. George was also predeceased by 6 of his siblings.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Church, Epping, NH.
Burial will follow in Holbrook Cemetery, Candia, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
