George A. Listenberger, age 87, residing in Culver, Indiana, formerly of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at home. George was born on April 27, 1932 in Culver, Indiana to the late Roy and Laura (Hacker) Listenberger. On November 16, 1951 in Monterey, Indiana he was united in marriage to Dorothy A. (Wentzel) Listenberger. Dorothy preceded him in death on May 1, 1999.
George graduated from Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1960. He owned and operated Listenberger Funeral Home in Peru, Indiana from 1961 - 1967. George was a civilian captain in the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Da Nang. Later he served at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Home, Indianapolis for seven years as a funeral director and teacher. George was a funeral director for Palmer Funeral Homes from 1984 until his retirement in 2001.
George is survived by his four daughters, Kathleen (Henry B., Jr.) Glover of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Christeena Listenberger of South Bend, Charleen (K.B.) Black of Brooksville, Florida and JaNeen (Scott) Dietl McFarland of Indianapolis; and his son, John (Kelly) Listenberger of South Bend. Nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and longtime friend of the family, Judy Feddler also survive. His brother, Lewis Listenberger preceded him in death.
George was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus; and a member of the St. Matthew Cathedral, South Bend.
Private services will be held at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, South Bend. Burial will follow in Culver Masonic Cemetery, Culver, IN. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
