Genevieve Strubbe Weaving passed away peacefully on September 20, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Shelton, CT in 1925, Genevieve lived a blessed life of 97 years, brimming with family, friends, and faith. As a graduate of St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Genevieve retired from nursing at the age of 90 after 70 years of servitude to the Cadet Nurse Corps, St. Mary's Hospital, Wellspring, Visiting Nurses Association, Griffin Hospital, Lutheran Home, and area schools. Genevieve's greatest passions were her family and her faith. She is predeceased by her loving husband James Phillip Weaving, Sr., as well as her daughter, Elaine Weaving Norris, who unexpectedly passed earlier the same day, and her grandson, Michael John Weaving. As the spirited and lovable matriarch, she is survived by her abundant and beloved family, including her children, Susan Weaving (Richard), Mary Anne Weaving, James P. Weaving, Jr., John Weaving, Genevieve West (Paul), and Elaine's devoted husband, Sigurd Norris, her grandchildren, David Miller (Laura), Michael Miller, Matthew Weaving, Christa Weaving, Courtney Combs (Hunter), Patrick Weaving, Lindsey Weaving (Derek), Rose Sorrell (Tom), Carl Norris, James Norris, David Norris, Seamus West, Selena West, and her great grandson, Maverick Combs. She served her Lord faithfully as a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, a Eucharistic Minister, and a multiple term president of the Columbiettes. Throughout her life, she surrounded herself with friends and family, fiercely advocated for social justice and mental health issues, and doted on her children and grandchildren. She traveled the country by RV alongside her husband Phil, and in her golden years stood tall at a formidable 4'6", living by the mantra: "A person's a person no matter how small." To honor both Genevieve and Elaine, the family is hosting a visitation from 2:00 - 6:00 PM on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. S., Southbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main St. S., Southbury, CT. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Southbury.
