Gene M. Morgan, 88, of South Bend passed away in his home at 12:15 P.M. on Wednesday, April 28th following an extended illness.
Gene was born on January 19, 1933 in South Bend to the late Theodore F. Morgan and Leona M. (Synave) Morgan. He is survived by his daughter, Jayne A. Nace of South Bend and son, Clayton T. Morgan of Missouri, along with grandchildren, Tara, Douglas, Jennifer, Tyler (Jaidyn) Nace, Kyle, Riley, Clayton Morgan, Quinn, Toby Gilbert and Kurt Kralis, thirteen (13) Great-Grandchildren and one (1) Great-Great Grandchild. Also surviving, his sister, Colleen (Larry) Jumps of South Bend, a brother, Randy (Debbie) Morgan of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
On February of 1966 he married Carol (Eaton) Morgan in South Bend. Carol passed away in June of 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and daughter, Paige Kralis in 2006.
Gene was employed as a laborer at A. M. General in Mishawaka, for many years and was a member of Union Local UAW #5.
He played in a Bluegrass Group (Lum Patten & Half Mountain Boys) playing the banjo, building train sets, fishing, camping and going on long car rides.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan family to help with funeral expenses.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 3rd from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home "Southwest Chapel" located at 23421 State Road 23/West Ireland Road in South Bend. A Celebration of Life for Gene will be at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Vito Rulli officiating.
