Gayle P. Werts, 83 of Saluda, died Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Hospice House of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greenwood.
Born on November 7, 1940, in Augusta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Douglas Middleton Pardue and Eleanor Grace Reid Pardue, and wife of Francis Malcolm Werts for 64 years. Mrs. Werts served 26 years as County Treasurer with Saluda County and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church. She was a Hospice Volunteer, served in the past as church secretary for Good Hope Baptist Church and was a member of the Little Mountain Eastern Star Chapter 276. A graduate of Aiken High School, Mrs. Werts was a native of Aiken, SC having made Saluda her life-long residence.
She is survived by her husband, a son, Joe Werts (Lori) of Ninety-Six, two daughters, Kathy Bradley (Mark) of Kingwood, TX and Beth Richey (Daniel) of McCormick, five grandchildren, Haleigh Freeman, Michala Bradley, Douglas Bradley, Nolan Richey and Drayton Richey, and her beloved dog, Sissy.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church with Rev. Jim Glander officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
