Gary F. Williams of Dallas, TX died peacefully on January 29 following a brief illness. He was 87.
The son of Inez and Percy Williams, Gary grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, and attended the University of North Carolina. He never lost his Tar Heel drawl after leaving the state of his birth, but he became a Texan in full once he settled in Dallas. Gary owned and operated the Kent Shop in Richardson and took pride in providing chic clothing for the best dressed men in the Dallas area. The wife of one of his customers was so intent on keeping her husband in the latest fashions that she once cut off the legs of her husband's suits to force him to visit Gary and restock his wardrobe.
After selling the Kent Shop, Gary switched careers and launched a landscape business. He opened Country Place Nursery and spent decades beautifying residential properties across North Texas.
Throughout his life, Gary loved dining at the best restaurants, both at home in Dallas and on his frequent travels to Nantucket and New York City. He loved getting to know chefs and wait staff alike, treating them to their favorite cocktail when they had provided him with a particularly memorable meal.
Gary was generous, fun, told a good story and laughed often and with great heart. He was a gift to all who knew him and is greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sharon Williams of Dallas, and his two children Toni Williams and Scott Williams, both of Seattle.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff of C.C. Young for the care they provided Gary during his last days.
