Gary Michael (Mike) Poindexter, age 57, of Columbus passed away on Monday January 3rd, 2022 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mike was born August 27th, 1964 in Indianapolis before moving to Columbus and attending Columbus North High School, graduating in 1982, followed by Vincennes University where he received his associate's degree in 1984. Mike had a passion for engineering and building, and he put that passion into his work at Wickes Lumber Company, later at Schultz, Snyder, and Steele, and finally at Lowe's Home Improvement where he worked in contractor sales for 19 years. He was an avid hobbyist who enjoyed building and repairing personal computers, model rockets, audio systems, and other small electronics. He also enjoyed time spent outdoors hiking, playing golf, and traveling to Colorado and Florida. At home, Mike could often be found at his grill, in his garage, or in his favorite chair, but always surrounding himself with family.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother, Michealyn "Mike" Ellen Smith, his step-father Glen Dale Smith, his grandmother Evelyn McFerran, and his grandfather Hearchell Frank McFerran.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Candace Poindexter of Columbus; his four sons in which he had immense pride, Logan (and Annabelle) Poindexter of Bloomfield, Tucker (and Chelsea) Poindexter of Los Angeles, California, and Owen and Seth Poindexter of Columbus. He also leaves behind two grandchildren, Penelope and Pruitt Poindexter, and one brother, Paul Poindexter of Temple, Texas, and a publicly disliked but privately loved dog, Daisy.
