Gary Hensley, 82, of Danville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was born in Unicoi County, Tennessee, to the late Martha and Dallas Hensley. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty, his daughters Julie Hensley (Allen Kinter), Kathy Baker (Joe), his grandson, William Harris, and his sister, Gail McInturff. His sister Reba Heinrick and brothers Farrell Hensley and Gilbert Hensley predeceased him. Gary graduated as the Salutatorian of the Unicoi County High School class of 1957. He earned a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee, where he met his wife, Betty. Gary served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in Okinawa, Japan, then working as an electrical engineer for various industries in Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky before retiring in 1998. Gary enjoyed helping Betty in their extensive garden and playing tennis with friends in his spare time. He also volunteered with the Ephraim McDowell Hospital Auxiliary and was a devoted member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church since 1978. Gary was loved and admired by his family and those whose lives he touched. Despite his health challenges in later years, he maintained a sweet, gentle disposition, always praising and expressing gratitude to others while asking for so little. He will be missed and remembered with fondness and love. The family is grateful to his care team at Baptist Health Hospital and his home caregivers for providing him with excellent, compassionate care.
