Gary Milo Goen, 55, of Bloomington, passed away on September 24, 2022 at IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born on June 29, 1967 in Anderson, Indiana; the son of Judy Josefek Goen and Bernard E. Goen, of Bloomington.
Gary graduated from Anderson High School in 1985 where he played football and was a heavy weight wrestler. Gary went on to attended Bethany Lutheran Collage on a wrestling scholarship and later attended Ball State University. Gary worked most of his career in the restaurant business, and was a volunteer coach, before moving to Bloomington where for nearly five years, he worked for Cook Medical.
Gary loved animals, including many dogs, cats, and parakeets. He was an avid Ball State and Jets fan, and a wonderful cook in the kitchen. Gary cherished time spent with his family and holiday celebrations; he was a kid at heart over the holidays.
Gary is survived by his parents; brother, Toby Goen, of Bloomington; sister, Wendy (Matt) Douglas, of Oaklawn, IL; aunt Jan (Dave) Syphers of Lebanon; great-aunt, Dr. Mary Anders; along with several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Milo and Harriett Josefek, Don Goen, and Barbara Caldwell; infant sister, Nicole Annette Goen; and uncle, Donald Robert Goen.
Gary's family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Brickyard Nursing Home and IU Health Hospital staff; with a special thank you to Dr. Pinto, Dr. Kannegolla, and nurses, Camyron and Tricia.
A extended family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an animal shelter of the donor's choice, or Ball State University. Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 South Old State Road 37, Bloomington, have been entrusted with arrangements.
