Garnes Lanier Rumley, 83 of Raleigh passed away on March 26, 2023 at Wake Med Hospital surrounded by his three daughters.
Born on May 21, 1939, he was the eldest and only son of John and Ora Rumley, raised in Browns Summit, NC. Garnes was a graduate of Monticello High School and East Carolina University. He worked for the same company for over fifty-five years and was honorably inducted into their sales Hall of Fame. He was best known for being extremely hard working, his immaculate yard, being well dressed, his love of dining out, and giving everyone he met a nickname.
Garnes was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was very devoted to his children, grandchildren, and extended family.
He is survived by his daughters; Apryl Clark and husband Tommy, Gina Rumley, and Candyce Rumley, all of Raleigh; two grandchildren: Tanner and Cooper Clark and his beloved grand-dogs that he loved spending time with.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-five years Joyce Key Rumley, his parents John and Ora Rumley, his sisters Charlotte Bishop, Marion Wright, and Barbara Linville.
The family will receive friends and visitors from 11:00 - 12:15 on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Mitchell Funeral Home 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC. The visitation will be followed by a private graveside service.
Flowers are welcomed however memorials may be made to Osceola Baptist Church, where Garnes had been a member since his childhood at 7711 NC-150, Browns Summit, NC 27214.
