Dr. Garland Leon Martin, age 70, of Waycross died Saturday, December 18, 2021 at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross. Dr. Martin was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, October 25, 1951. He enlisted, served and was honorably discharged as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Vietnam Veteran.He graduated from the University of Arkansas- Little Rock upon his return from Vietnam. Dr. Martin graduated with a degree in Chemistry. Later in life his interest in Medicine led him to Ross University where he earned a Medical Degree. He completed his Residency at Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee, specializing in Internal Medicine. Dr. Martin has practiced in Georgia as an Internal Medical Physician for over 20 years. During that time he has had a successful private practice in Baxley, Georgia and was employed by the Appling Healthcare System in Baxley for several years. Most recently employed with the Clinch Memorial Hospital in Homerville, Georgia. He enjoyed playing golf, target practice, traveling and spending time at home with his wife Tammy and their two dogs. Survivors include his wife, Tammy Lee Martin; daughters & son-on-law, Andrea Martin, Rachel & Neal Keeton, Sarah & Tommy Heth, Lindsay & Anthony Stoll, and Samantha Bowles; sons & daughter-in-law, Sean Bowles and Andy & Mercedes Bowles; sisters, Susan Camp, Judy Vanlandingham, Pam Dobson, and Karen Martin; brothers, Richard L. Martin, Keith Martin, and Johny Vanlandingham; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 24, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Statum officiating. Inurnment will be held in Pleasant Hill/Butler Cemetery in Star City, Arkansas at a later date.
