Garie Eugene Shawyer, Sr. , 60 Jul 4, 1960 - Dec 1, 2020 Cavetown, MD - Garie Eugene Shawyer, Sr., 60, of Cavetown, MD passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at his home. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. He was a friend to all that knew him.
He was born on July 4, 1960 in Fairplay, MD to the late Gilbert Hilton and Florence Jean Paul Shawyer.
He was a 1978 graduate of Williamsport High School in Williamsport, MD.
Garie was employed as a Foreman for Concrete General in Gaithersburg, MD until 2000.
He was a member of Zion Assembly of God in Maugansville, MD.
Garie loved the outdoors, loved all his animals, and enjoyed metal detecting.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ann (Gossard) Shawyer whom he married on July 22, 1978; son Garie E. Shawyer, Jr. of Greencastle, PA ;daughter Heather R. Shawyer and her companion Rylan J. Bowers of Cavetown, MD; sister Margaret Walters and her husband Henry of Hagerstown, MD; sister Sherry Funk and her husband Harry of Keedysville, MD; brother Dennis Shawyer and his wife Virginia of Hagerstown, MD; brother Timothy Shawyer of Hagerstown, MD; brother John Gossard and his wife Deborah of Hagerstown, MD; grandchildren Jonathan Shawyer and his fiancee' Kaylin Kinsey, James Shawyer, Nathaniel Shawyer, and Justin Ragland, Jr.; great grandson Michael D. Shawyer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son Michael L. Shawyer; granddaughter Mary Ann Shawyer; brothers John Shawyer, Julian Shawyer, and Richard Shawyer; sister Joyce Marie Funk.
A private celebration of life service was held at Zion Assembly of God in Maugansville, MD with Pastor Stuart Torres officiating.
