Gale "Rod" Bearup, 94 of Petoskey, Michigan, passed away on June 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Rod was born July 2, 1925 in Petoskey where he grew up. He attended Petoskey Public Schools and Michigan State University of Agriculture.
On June 13, 1951 he married Mary Alice Passino in Cheboygan, Michigan.
Rod served in the United States Navy as a medic and is a World War II veteran.
Rod worked on a dairy farm, Croff Construction and as a caretaker for Bay View for many years.
He enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to fish, hunt and go to their cabin in Canada, he was also a collector of many things.
Rod is survived by his children: Linda (Mick) Godzik of Larks Lake, Richard and Michael Bearup of Harbor Springs, his grandchildren: Susie (Tony) Cancilla, Joe (Kathy) Godzik, Michelle (Ed) Zmikly, and Chad (Lynette) Bearup; his great-grandchildren: Josh, Abigail, Aaron, Olivia, Veronica, Taeya, Cohen, and Elliana; and his brother Merton (Helen) Bearup.
Rod is preceded in death by his wife Mary Alice; his parents Lawrence and Emma; his son Robert (Bob); his brothers: Sonny, Albert, Jimmy, John, and Bill; and his sisters Virginia, and Martha Jean.
Those wishing to make a charitable donation in Rod's memory are suggested by family to do so to the Brave Heart Estate in Pellston, Michigan.
Rod will be buried at St. Nicholas Cemetery in Larks Lake, Michigan next to his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Alice. Per his request there will be no service.
