Gail Iva McCary passed away peacefully at her home in Anacortes on Monday, August 23, 2021.
Gail's story begins in the town of Bellingham by the Salish Sea. Growing up she was a daddy's girl and known for always being the one you could count on. She began grade school in Clearlake, and later graduated from Sedro Woolley High School in 1959. While in high school she participated in cheerleading and choir being remembered for her excellent soprano voice.
Gail married Al Kriens right after high school and they had three children: Connie, Dale, and Crystal. Gail was a loving, devoted wife and mother. She was involved in the ladies auxiliary at Skagit Speedway while her husband drove a race car. She also drove the car in powder puff races, screamed herself horse cheering him on during races, and made sure the experience was fun for her children.
Several years later, she met and married the love of her life, Ron McCary, and they were inseparable until his death in 1995. In their precious time together, they enjoyed camping at Baker Lake, traveling to California to visit family and competing in shuffleboard tournaments.
Gail was a banker most of her working career retiring in 1989. However, she quickly became bored with all the extra time on her hands and went back to work for Piston Service until her "real" retirement in 2001.
Gail's had a large circle of friends and those who met her were drawn to her contagious laugh. She was a member of the Anacortes Eagles for numerous years. She also was a talented artist gifting many of her paintings to family and friends.
As fate would have it, Gail found love again with David Mooney, who became a long-time life partner. Together they enjoyed the great outdoors with many summers spent at Baker Lake with family and friends including David's daughter, Katie Stemmmene and her family.
