G. David Petts passed away peacefully on March 5, 2022, at the age of 76, at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on November 12, 1945 in Vincennes, IN to the late J. Homer Petts and the late B. Gertrude (Mitchell) Petts.
Dave treasured his life-long friends, Fred Donnoe, John Burke, and Jim Bible, from their days growing up in Vincennes spent fishing, talking about old vehicles, and running around town together. In 1965, Dave joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam. Although his service ended in 1968, he was always honored to be a part of the military and could tell you stories of his experiences from around the world. On September 12, 1977, he married Vicky L. (Baumgartner) Petts in Cookeville, Tennessee, and she survives. He worked for Duke Energy in substation maintenance for over 37 years and retired in March 2007. Dave was always helping someone try to fix or build something and was full of jokes that you were sure to hear more than once if you spent enough time with him.
Along with his wife, Dave is survived by his daughter, Alyson N. (Tom) Edwards; his granddaughter, Elanora C. Petts; his sister, Jeanne (Don) Bailey of Palestine, IL; several nieces and nephews; his longtime friends, the Firepit Crew; and his special canine girlfriend, Kylie (sorry Chewie).
Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert J. Petts and James H. Petts; his sister, Phyllis A. Ralston; his nephews, Jon P. Petts, H. Steve Adams, and great-nephew, Collin R. Petts.
No visitation or services will be held, but a celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
