G. Lynn Lovell, 81, Altoona, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday. Lynn was born in Fallentimber, PA, son of the late George Henry and June Evelyn (Keith) Lovell. On Dec. 2, 1961 he married Barbara Maucieri at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
Lynn is survived by his loving wife; three children: Scott (Lisa) Lovell, of Altoona, Kelly (Larry) Detwiler, of Altoona, and Kim (Larry) Frey of Arizona; four grandchildren: Courtney and Mackenzie Detwiler, of Altoona, Zachary Bender, of AZ, and Alyssa Bender, of VA; a brother, Gary Lovell; a brother in law, Nick (Jane) Maucieri; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces and nephews.
Lynn was preceded in death by a grandson, Byron Scott Lovell and a sister in law, Kathy Lovell.
He was a 1959 graduate of Reade Township High School, a graduate of School of Retail Management from University of Virginia, a graduate of The National Installment Credit School at the University of Chicago, McIntyre School of Commerce University of Virginia, the ESBA Credit Card School in Glen Cove, New York, and received a general certificate from the American Institute of Banking. He was also an active member of the Pennsylvania Bankers Association and Consumer Credit School of Banking.
Lynn was previously employed by First Commonwealth Bank, where he retired. He was the president of Central Bank, Vice President at Mid State Bank and Trust. Co., Household Finance, and Wolf Furniture Company.
Lynn also received the Service to Education Award from the Altoona School District and also introduced new banking service to the hearing impaired at Mid State Bank.
Lynn was very active in the community. He was active in the PTA’s in the Altoona School District, Board of the Altoona Area Council of PTA’s, Music Parent Association, Blair County Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Committee of Altoona Area School District, Treasurer of MS Society, American Cancer Society, Boy Scouts of America, Board Member of Advantage Credit Counseling of Western Pa., Board Member of United Way, Board Member of Altoona Symphony, Ambucs, and many more.
Lynn loved golfing, taking trips, and especially being with his family.
Friends will be received from 2-7pm Sunday, July 24, 2022 in the Santella Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, July 25, 2022 in the Santella Funeral Home. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
