FURNEY R. HEMINGWAY, JR.
Furney Rhem Hemingway, Jr., 91, of Palatka, passed away Friday, December 30, 2022 at HCA Florida Putnam Hospital in Palatka.
Considered the patriarch of his family, Furney had lived in Palatka for the past 5 years coming from Palm Coast. He was born in Kingstree, South Carolina and was 1949 graduate of Kingstree High School. He had lived in Kingstree until he enrolled in the University of South Carolina where he graduated with the Bachelor's degree in Journalism. He was a long-time employee of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper where he worked as a type editor. He was veteran of the US Army.
Besides his parents, Furnifold Hemingway and Sarah Gary Cheatham, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah H. Wicker.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews, including Susan Pinson and her husband, Richard of Tallahassee; Robert Wicker and his wife, Sindy of Ava Maria; and Judy Wicker Maynard of Los Cruises, NM.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
