Fritz Wade Wirt, a newspaperman virtually all his life, died January 6, 2021 in Montgomery, Texas. He was 85. A former newspaper reporter, editor, publisher and journalism educator, he worked at several newspapers in Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. While working in the private sector, he taught journalism classes part-time at various universities in Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas.
Fritz was the Executive Editor of the Standard Times from 1979-1980. In 2006, Fritz was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame and the Midwest City High School Wall of Fame in Midwest, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen, his daughter Tobey (Richard) Scott of Big Lake, Texas, sons Robin Wirt of McLean, Virginia and Dan Wirt of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren Shannon (Andrew) Galletti of Midland, Texas, Aaron Scott of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and great-grandchild Silas Galletti. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Faye (Flora) Wirt of MidWest City, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held in Stillwater, Oklahoma at a later date.
