Freida King Nichols, age 87, surrounded by her loving family, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on October 1, 2023. Her passing was due to an extended illness.
Freida worked as a registered nurse at Santa Rosa Hospital, serving in Labor and Delivery and in supervisory and administrative roles. Later she founded and taught the Certified Nursing Assistant program at Milton High School and Locklin Vocational School. Her students were both adults and high school students. Many went on to careers in the medical field. She loved her students, and they loved her. She took sincere interest in them and had an impact on many lives.
Freida was an active member of First Baptist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Social Sorority, the Shakespeare Club, and Retired Educators Association.
One of her significant joys was family summer visits to Navarre Beach. Another joy was the beautiful family home on Escambia Bay built in 1994. She decorated it with her antiques and collectibles. Almost every day she would thank her husband for building it for her. They enjoyed the beautiful sunsets together daily.
With her ever-pleasant disposition and her constant beautiful smile, Freida was always a very sweet, sweet person who was greatly loved by all her knew her.
Freida always had a strong Christian faith. It was a very important and significant part of her life, which truly was an example for others to follow. The family has the assurance and comfort that she is in heaven waiting for them to join her. Freida will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and all who know her.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Judge Colie Nichols; three sons and their wives, Rod and Deborah, Stan and Joyce, Garth and Lori; four grandchildren, Tanner, Bryce, McKenna, Tristan; and great grandson, Owen.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday October 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Milton, 6797 Caroline Street Milton, Florida 32570, with visitation from 12:00-2:00pm and service at 2:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Serenity Gardens.
Dr. David Spencer and Dr. Jonathan Russell will be officiating.
