Frederic Lord Taylor, of Richmond, Virginia, passed away Monday, June 13th, 2022. He was 95 years old. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Arthur Canning and Carolyn Lord Taylor. He was a devoted husband of 70 years to Jaquelin Payne Taylor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two children, Frederic Lord Taylor Jr. and Jaquelin Taylor Bishof, and her husband, Mark Christopher Bishof; and three grandchildren, Katherine, Jaquelin and Rebecca Bishof.
He studied electrical engineering at Virginia Military Institute and Industrial Management at the University of Cincinnati. He was a WWII veteran and was sent to Germany as part of the occupation forces as a member of SHAFE headquarters.
Following his military service, he spent his career at Bell Labs and Western Electric Company. He was appointed to represent engineering on President Johnson's committee charged to consider the metric system for adoption in the United States. His many accomplishments are alive to this day in the legacy of acquisitions through AT&T, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nokia. He holds a US patent and was a member of the Mayflower Society.
He was also very active in retirement; he was an expert gardener who grew all flowers and vegetables from seed in his greenhouse. His real passion in life was woodworking; he had an extensive woodworking shop and created fine furniture and antique reproductions for his family that will always be treasured. He was an expert bridge player and was a legend in the online bridge circuit. He always loved a challenge and completed the Richmond Marathon at age 58.
Funeral services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, River Road, Richmond, Virginia.
