Frederick Junior Martin aka Freddy/Ted was born in Canada on June 25, 1927. Freddy lived a life of adventure and was constantly in motion. He learned and experienced everything he could in his lifetime. Freddy's sense of humor added joy and laughter to all.
In his teenage years, during World War II, he was an unsung hero by serving as a Merchant Marine. It was a crazy time for him, but he enjoyed sharing his stories of that time in his life especially having had the opportunity to meet celebrities like the Andrew Sisters. Once he completed his term, he graduated from technical school earning a Certificate in Carpentry. He eventually moved to Miami and worked for a company called S & L Store Fixtures. With this job, he traveled around the United States and Internationally. He frequented Grand Cayman, the Bahamas and Mexico. Freddy retired at the age of 65.
In his spare time, Freddy learned to fly planes and logged many hours in the cockpit. He was also a great bowler, frequenting the Cloverleaf in North Miami where he participated in bowling competitions earning several trophies. He fished and participated in several fishing competitions. He also enjoyed golfing, billiards and riding his motorcycle.
He moved to The Villages in 2005 to be surrounded by golf courses. There, he enjoyed playing golf, billiards, swimming or his favorite past time.....riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. He always participated in the Annual Villages Senior Games and earned several medals in golf and billiards, most times being the oldest competitor.
Freddy was most notorious in The Villages for cruising around on his motorcycle with his K9 best friend "Sadie". He rode his motorcycle cross country several times and even made it to Canada. In 2016, he was awarded the "Oldest Male Rider" by the Gold Wing Road Rider Association.
On July 29, 2022 Freddy passed away in the comfort of his own home at the young age of 95, surrounded by loved ones.
Freddy is survived by his children Lee Martin, Suzanne Shirley and Mary Ann Williams, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He leaves behind his best friend and companion "Sadie" and a cat named "Morris".
The Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2022 from 2:00-5:30pm at The Villages Allamanda Recreation Center, 1515 St. Charles Place, The Villages, Fl 32162.
