We are sad to announce that on October 25, 2022, at the age of 84, Fred Carroll Lyon was called home to be with our Lord. He was born October 4, 1938, in Pontotoc to Robert Leslie Lyon and Margaret Pitts Lyon. After graduating from Pontotoc High School in 1956 he went to IBM College in Memphis, TN. He became an IBM programmer for Futorian Manufacturing, where he retired. He was a member of The Church of Acts. He was a bass singer for several gospel groups for 50 plus years: The Challengers, The Miracles, and a few more. He always said a good quartet he could listen to for hours. He loved spending time outdoors in the summer, especially when it came time for family reunions every year at Sardis Lake in Sardis, MS. He loved to fish and always planted a garden.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 29, at United Funeral Service with Bro. Charlie Gainey officiating. Burial will be in Baldwin Memorial Gardens at Pontotoc. United Funeral Service is honored to be trusted with the arrangements.
He is survived by 2 daughters: Sonya Sewell (Ronnie) of Pontotoc and Secyme Lyon (Linda) of Brandon, MS.; 1 sister: Grace Montgomery (Butch) of Memphis, TN.; 1 brother: Robert Lyon (Betty) of Richmond, VA.; 2 grandsons: Shayne Burchfield of New Albany and David Jamison of Toccopolla; 1 granddaughter: Keli Arnold of Brandon, MS.; 3 great-grandsons: Nick Burchfield and Bradley Burchfield, both of New Albany, and Trace Arnold of Brandon, MS.; and the mother of his girls: Sandy Lyon Hawkins (Jim) of New Albany.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 great-granddaughter: McKensi Kyle Lyon; 2 sisters: Maude Knox and Mary Rowan Bass; 1 brother: Doyle Lyon; and 1 brother-in-law: Butch Montgomery.
Pallbearers will be Shayne Burchfield, Nick Burchfield, Bradley Burchfield, David Jamison, Justin Bridges, and Christian Webber. Honorary pallbearer is Trace Ray Arnold.
Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, October 28 at United.
