Booneville Funeral Home
Fred Gaines, 85, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Iuka. He was born on March 16, 1937, to Samuel Evan Gaines and Annie Florence Williams.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Booneville. He was an avid bird dog trainer and later developed a passion for Lewellen Setters. He, along with his friend Stan Pounds, owned and trained "Highway Dan", the National Champion Lewellen Setter. He retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation after 33 years.
He was married to his sweetheart, Dorothy Jean on August 19, 1962.
Funeral services for Mr. Gaines will be Monday, October 24, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Booneville Funeral Home. Visitation time will begin at 12:00 noon on October 24, 2022, and continuing until service time. Rev. Trey Lambert will be officiating. Burial will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Booneville Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his sons, Stan Gaines (Jennifer) of Germantown, TN, and Steve Gaines (Candi) of Corinth, MS, his grandchildren , Grant Gaines of Germantown, TN, Anna Kate Wilbanks (Connor) of Corinth, and John Thomas Gaines of Corinth; step-granddaughter, Courtney Dahlsten (Drew) of Gainesville, GA, and step-grandson, Cody Jordan (Katie) of Germantown, TN; 4 step-great grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his wonderful caregivers, Linda Padgett, Barry Godsey, and Linda Dixon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, 6 sisters and 1 brother.
