Saratoga Springs, NY/Boston, MA: Francis J. Strenk, Jr., 77, passed away on Saturday, July 10th, in the Saratoga Hospital, Saratoga Springs, NY, after a brief illness.
He leaves his companion of many years, Gail Atkinson; his stepson, Chuck Reiley of Braintree, MA; his nephew, Robert LeBel of Tolland, CT; and his three nieces, Cheryl Bantle of Pinehurst, NC, Robyn Hawley of Binghamton, NY and Jodi Christian of Worcester, MA. He was predeceased by his stepson, Dennis Reiley, his sister, Sandra A. LeBel and her husband Raymond and his two nephews, Michael LeBel and Stephen LeBel. Frank was born in Southbridge, MA the son of the late Francis and Shirley (Baron) Strenk. He was a 1961 graduate of Mary E. Wells High School in Southbridge and received his bachelors degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.
Frank had a lifelong successful career in the beverage/entertainment business. He was the, owner of O'Brien's Pub in Allston MA and had a 44 year career and ownership at his "home base" Great Scott in Allston, MA. He was also the former owner of Quarters Pub in Saratoga Springs NY. Over the years Frank was a thoroughbred horse owner in MA and NY. His love of the horse racing industry and the area led him to purchase a home in Saratoga Springs NY in 1995 where his spent as much time as possible and was called "Boston Frank".
Calling hours for Frank will be held on Tuesday, July 20th, from 10:00am to 12:00pm in the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, MA, with a funeral service to follow in the funeral home at 12:00pm. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Southbridge, MA.
