The private family funeral service for Frank G. Scepaniak, 91, Aberdeen, SD, is 11:00am, Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 S. Main St.: Pastor Eldon Reich officiating. Burial at Riverside Memorial Park with Military honors by Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post 24. Frank died Thursday, May 7, at his home in Aberdeen. Scepaniak was born February 21, 1929, to John and Gertrude (Reilander) Scepaniak on the family farm on the west side of Pickerel Lake, SD. He grew up on the farm and attended country school in the area. His family moved into Waubay, SD, in 1940. Frank later moved to Aberdeen where he worked for Malchow's installing floors. He served his country in the Korean War with the 5th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division. Frank was highly decorated for his service and returned to Aberdeen after his honorable discharge. Frank was united in marriage to LaVonne Wiersbeck in 1953. Frank started his own general contractor business and installed flooring for Warren Buffet's businesses in Omaha, NE, and many other businesses, malls and schools. Frank installed many intricate basketball floors and later in his career began installing acoustic ceilings. Frank was member of Aberdeen First United Methodist Church. When he was younger, Frank and his family raised Arabian Horses to show and thoroughbred horses that they took on the race circuit. He loved fishing and hunting and was the one who shot the Polar Bear that is on display at the Dacotah Prairie Museum in Aberdeen. Frank loved to play cards and tell stories. He always had a joyful laugh! Grateful for having shared Frank's life are are his children: Scott (Pam), Carla, and Todd (Shari); grandchildren: Piper (Scott), Malia (Carla), and Reno (Todd); great-grandsons: Braden and Asher (Malia); and sister: Clare Davidson.
