Mr. Francis X. Manns, 73, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, November 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Pittsfield, MA, on February 1, 1951, son of the late Marvin and Marlee DeBlieux Manns, he graduated from St. Joseph High School with the class of 1968. Francis then earned his bachelor's degree from UMASS Amherst, and later would graduate with a Master of Science Degree in Special Education from Lesley University.
Fran had a natural gift for teaching and helping others, qualities that shaped his career and his life. After completing his education, he proudly served for six years in the Army Reserves. He then dedicated over 30 years of his professional life to teaching, primarily at Nessacus Middle School, where he taught English and Math. His dedication to his students was evident in everything he did, always encouraging them to do their best and work toward a brighter future. Fran also worked at Dave's Driving School, where he taught many students the skills they needed to succeed behind the wheel. Fran also worked at the Berkshire County House of Correction, where he taught social studies, offering them the tools and knowledge they needed to improve their lives. His commitment to helping others and making a positive impact was one of his defining qualities.
Among his many passions, Fran enjoyed reading, spending time with his family on trips to Cape Cod, drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon at the Sideline with his buddies, and working with dedication and pride. He was a fan of classic music, particularly solid golden oldies. He had a deep love for sports and loved watching his children and grandchildren play them. His favorite pastimes included watching golf and football, and cheering on the Boston Bruins in hockey.
Fran is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Diane (Venturini) Manns, whom he married on May 13, 1978. Together, they shared a life filled with joy, laughter, and unwavering partnership. He also leaves behind three cherished children: Carole Wendling and her husband Brian, Nicholas Manns and his partner Jocelyn and Andrew Manns and his wife Kaitlyn. Francis was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Marissa and Lila Wendling, Annabel Manns, and Vincent and Oliver Manns, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
He is further survived by his siblings: Marvin C. Manns Jr. (Kathy), Walter Manns (Ann), Peter Manns, Elizabeth Manns (Anthony), and Mary Manns, as well as his brother-in-law Paul Callahan. Francis also leaves behind his sister-in-laws, Donna Murray and Susan Kelly (Timothy Kelly), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Marlee Haines and Deborah Callahan and his brother- in- law Raymond Murray.
