Francis (Frank) Peter Bensel passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at the age of 87 near his home in Tequesta, FL. Frank was born March 1, 1934, in New York City to Francis Scott and Nora Bensel and grew up in Riverdale in the Bronx, NY. Frank graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1955 and subsequently earned his law degree from Fordham Law School in 1958. He served in the US Air Force in Okinawa in the Judge Advocate General Program. Frank began his professional career as an attorney at the Manhattan District Attorney's office. He later joined Martin Clearwater and Bell where he became a partner in 1975 and went on to become a successful litigator.
Frank was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He was an avid golfer, sports enthusiast, and lifelong NY Giants fan. Frank is survived by his wife Sally Bensel (Igo), with whom he enjoyed over 57 years of marriage. In addition to Sally, he is survived by his children Caitlin Brown (James), Anne Bensel (Steve Steinthal), Frank Bensel Jr. (Alynn), MaryJo Demetriades (Gregory), Diane Bensel (Kenzo), and Michael Bensel. Frank treasured spending time with his eight grandchildren who he loved dearly, Andrew and Gillian Brown, Jack Davenport, Mozen Bensel-An, and Hagen, Wynn, Frances, and Faith Bensel. Frank is also survived by his sisters Irene Markley and Joan O'Rourke and many nieces and nephews. Frank leaves behind a lifetime of treasured friends and colleagues.
Before moving to Florida, Frank and Sally raised their family in White Plains NY. Frank was very active in his community of White Plains through Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, St. Agnes Hospital, and Westchester Hills Golf Club. He retired in Jupiter and Tequesta, FL and was a member of Turtle Creek Golf Club where he continued to play the sport he loved. Frank Bensel lived a life of integrity, kindness, selflessness, generosity and humor.
