Frances Ruth Nerney (nee Hamilton), formerly of Brooklyn, NY and Howard Beach, Queens, passed away peacefully in Naples, FL on October 5, 2020.
She was born in Ridgewood, NY on November 13, 1930 and graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Brooklyn in 1948. After graduation, she worked in a number of high level executive assistant positions, including for the Comptroller of the City of New York, several airline executives, and the Superintendent of Great Neck, NY Public Schools. She retired in 1994.
Frances was married to Benjamin Sexton from 1956 to 1990, and then to John Nerney from 1991 until his death in 1998. She was the partner and ultimately wife of Arno Kalb of Palm Beach County, FL, from 1998 until his death in 2018. She spent the last 28 years of her life in Florida.
Frances was known for her sense of humor and was a gifted singer and actress. She had a longstanding passion for theatre, starring in a number of musical productions of the Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn from the 1960s through the 1980s. She was critically acclaimed for her performances in the New York newspapers.
Frances is survived by her sons, Robert, Brian and Christopher and their respective spouses, Yesim, Gilah and Kathleen, as well as by four grandchildren, Deirdre, Benjamin, Caitlin, and Sarah.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Naples at 12:00 pm on Saturday, October 10, 2020 and livestreamed and may be viewed by visiting the Hodges Funeral Home at Naples Memorial Gardens Facebook page. The video will appear once the Service begins. The Mass will be followed by a Viewing at Hodges Funeral Home from 1pm-2:30pm, which is adjacent to the Church.
