Frances Hayes Monica, 95, of Concord passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, New Hampshire.
She was born on August 21, 1925, the daughter of William and Frances (Knott) of Columbus, Ohio. Fran grew up in Columbus where she attended North High School and Saint Mary's of the Springs. She worked for the State of Ohio and Ohio State University prior to her marriage in 1947 to Harold (Hal) Monica.
In 1956, Fran and her family moved to Concord where they raised their four children. Fran worked for the Village House Real Estate Company for 25 years and later worked for Bartelink Enterprises for 5 years. Fran was actively engaged in her community. She was a member of St. John's Church, the St. John's Choir, the Junior Service League, the Concord Hospital Volunteer Association, and a member of the Board of the Rolfe and Rumford Home. After her retirement, Fran enjoyed tending her beautiful rose gardens.
In early 2000, Fran and Hal moved to Bow into an in-law apartment with her daughter Laura, her son-in-law Bill Verville, and their twin girls. Fran and Hal's life was filled with the joys and excitement of watching the twins grow up, including everything from birthday parties to sporting events to Easter egg hunts to graduations. Among Fran's most treasured memories were the times she spent at the First Connecticut Lake at "camp" with Laura and her family. She also loved watching her dogs swim in the lake, including Tiki and her three golden retrievers all named Casey.
Fran's life was also blessed with many wonderful grandchildren whom she adored. Being "Mimi" was a role she totally embraced. She followed the lives of all her grandchildren and knew the names, ages and antics of all fourteen of her beautiful great grandchildren. Each grandchild has their own special memories and stories of their beloved Mimi.
Fran later moved to Havenwood which she made her home for the last seven years. She made wonderful friends there but none dearer than the nurses in Home Health who kept a watchful eye over her. They were her friends and confidants who kept Fran, and all the Havenwood residents, safe during the long months of isolation related to the virus. Fran's family is eternally grateful to the Home Health Nursing staff for the love, care and support they showed their Mom.
Fran will be greatly missed by many. She will be especially missed by her four children: Paul Monica and his wife Betty of Great Falls, Virginia; William Monica and his wife Kathy of Providence, Rhode Island; Linda Monica and her husband Richard Horan of Durham, New Hampshire, and Laura Monica of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was the proud grandmother of Andrew, Taylor, Eric, Jill, Paul Jr., William, Caitlin and Brittany; and the great grandmother to 14 beautiful children.
In memory of Fran, there will be Calling Hours on Thursday June 10th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord, New Hampshire. There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday, June 11th at 10:30am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road, Concord, New Hampshire followed by a burial at the Contoocook Village Cemetery at 743 NH Route 103 in Contoocook, NH.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make a donation to: "HHH Nursing Education Fund" and send it to Michael Palmieri, President/CEO, Havenwood, 33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH 03301.
