COLUMBIA Frances Derrick Hutto Hammond passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022. She was a loving mother and friend. The wonderful friends and workers she had during her stay at The Retreat in Beaufort, S.C. and the many others who had the chance to know her would fondly refer to her as Momma Hutto, Granny or just "Grandma".
Frances was born June 7, 1927 and was a true child of the depression. She felt obligated to keep everything that may or may not be of value someday and threw away nothing, which was the subject of many jokes among her family and friends. A true child of the country, she was happiest when she was able to have her hands in the dirt and enjoyed growing flowers, especially Christmas cacti, and vegetables in her yard.
She is survived by daughters, Paula Hutto Elliott (Bill), Pam Hutto, and Leisa Hutto Lipscomb-Flashnick (Bruce); stepson, Joe Hammond (Victoria); grandchildren, Charly Elias, Wendy Elias, Nick Sosler, Alex Sosler, Maggie Dickinson, Curtis Harrison and Guy Lipscomb; six great-grandchildren; sister, Rebecca Todd; and sister-in-law, Bernice Grant. She was predeceased by her first husband, McLaren "Mac" J. Hutto and her second husband, Riley G. Hammond, as well as her daughter, Patricia Hutto Kephart and brother, Charles Derrick.
Services will be held Friday, March 18, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Lexington, Barr Road, at 12:00 noon, with burial following in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors at the church prior to the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church of Lexington, 415 Barr Road, Lexington SC 29072.
