It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Mrs. Frances Chaplin Callahan, 97, of Columbia, SC, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who peacefully passed away at home with her loving daughter by her side.
Frances was born in Charleston, SC. She was a homemaker, a wonderful cook and baker who enjoyed her beautiful flower garden, loved spending time with her family, helping others, and a good belly laugh. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and sister, who will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known her.
In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Leon Callahan; daughter, Linda Callahan Wilson, who passed away earlier this year; sister, Mary Lamb, as well as brothers, Grover Chaplin and Oswald "Ozzie" Chaplin. Frances is survived by her daughter, Karen Callahan James of Eastover, SC; son-in-law, Norman Scott Wilson; granddaughter, Hillary Michele Stamps and husband, Russell; and great grandchildren, Grayson, Walker, and Adeline (Addy) Stamps.
Frances was a member of Ravenwood Baptist Church in Columbia for many years. The family would like to thank Mickey Veronica Sims for her loving care, devotion, and friendship over the years to Frances.
The graveside service for Mrs. Callahan will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Saturday, November 5th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Norman Wilson and Russell Stamps.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday, November 4th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC, 29223.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Frances' memory may be made to Ravenwood Baptist Church, 3545 Raven Hill Road, Columbia, SC 29204.
