Floyd L. Garrett, Jr., age 80, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021 in Knoxville, TN in his loving wife's arms. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida in 1941. Floyd had a very successful trucking company while living in Florida. After selling his business, Floyd and his wife, Ava Wilson Garrett, moved from their hometown of Fernandina Beach, Florida to Sevierville, TN in 1995 to build and open the worldwide acclaimed "Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum". Mr. Garrett gathered one of the finest collections of muscle cars in the country. He built the museum to share the collection with the public. Floyd and the museum were featured many times on various muscle car related television programs. Also, Floyd was featured in numerous car magazines across the country throughout his career. He was known as "the muscle car guru" which always humbled him. He has friends literally across the globe and always was thankful for being so blessed to have the opportunity to share his passion with the world. Floyd was also a charter member of the Muscle Car Hall of Fame and was inducted in 1999, which helped shape the Muscle Car Industry.
Floyd also served our country in the United States Army Reserve. There aren't enough words to sufficiently describe all the attributes he deserves. Floyd looked forward to each summer in which many of his and Ava's nieces and nephews would come to Tennessee to visit. He loved teaching them about the cars and spending time with them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd Lee Garrett, Sr., and Daisy McKendree Garrett. He is survived by his wife, Ava Wilson Garrett of Sevierville, TN, sisters, Betty Lou Garrett, Yulee, FL, and Elaine Wilcox (Edgar) of Fernandina Beach, FL, one brother-in-law, Fred Wilson, III (Mary) of Yulee, FL, and sister-in-law Eva Wilson (Wally Bell) of Fernandina Beach, FL. He is also survived by several special nephews, nieces, and special great-nephews and nieces. Floyd was also blessed with cousins who were more like brothers and sisters to him.
A celebration of Floyd's life and car show will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Laytn's Land-n located at 67760 Owens Farm Road, Yulee, FL.
