Floyd Worth Hughes died peacefully at home of natural causes on March 12,2021 at the age of 90, in Lenoir City, Tennessee. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was born on July 3, 1930 in Green Mountain, North Carolina to Charles and Zenna Hughes. He married Barbara Ann Hutton on July 7,1952 in Marion, North Carolina. Having received a draft notice from the army, he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force the following day. He retired after serving 26 years, enjoying assignments in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Istanbul, Turkey, South Carolina and 2 assignments in Alaska. Floyd was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to tell the tale of catching a 63lb King Salmon on the Kenai River in Alaska. Active in many sports, badminton gained him many awards and trophies, including an invitation to play in the Arctic Winter Games in Canada. Each spring he looked forward to planting his garden and sharing the green beans and tomatoes that he canned.
Floyd is survived by his 3 children: Patricia McCoy (Johnny) of Maryville, Tennessee; Dale Hughes (Kathy) of Lancaster, South Carolina; and Dean Hughes (Cindy) of Heath Springs, South Carolina; 3 grandchildren Randy (Rebekah) McCoy, Ricky McCoy, and Matthew McCoy; 8 great grandchildren: Ashley, Austin, Brenden; Hannah, Samuel, Nathan, Thomas; and Jackson; 5 great great grandchildren: Arrianna, Brayden, Carsen, Scarlett, and Remington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Zenna Hughes, brother, Charles Hughes, sister, Jewell Steffey and his bride of 64 years, Barbara Ann Hutton of Greenback, Tennessee.
Celebration of life was Monday, March 15, 2021 with receiving of friends from 5-6pm and services at 6pm at Click Funeral Home, Farragut. Pastor Greg Tucker and Dr. Jeff Sledge will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Floyd's life. The family would like to thank NHC Home Care and Amedisys Hospice Care for all their support during Floyd's last days, with a special thank you to his nurses, Laurie and Jessica and therapist, Marty. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Fellowship Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
