Floyd Dennison Horne passed away on 13 December, 2020 in Oxford, Florida. He was born on 23 February, 1922, in Bowersville, Ohio, the son of Faye and Vernon Horney. He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in May 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 30 July 1940, and retired from the U.S. Air Force on 1 May 1962 as a Major. After twelve years of Civil Service employment, he retired from his position as Chief of Police at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in June 1974. Floyd graduated from flight training as a Bombardier in February 1943, and flew 68 combat missions from a base in England in the twin engine Martin B-26 Marauder airplane. He was proud to have flown two missions on D Day, 6 June 1944, in support of the invasion in the Omaha Beach area. Floyd and Lucille retired to Florida where they resided in Fort Myers, Leesburg and Summerfield areas. He was preceded in death, after fifty eight years of marriage, by his wife Lucille in 2002, his daughter Carole Anne Hughes in 1991, a granddaughter Jennifer Horne in 1998, and sisters Geneva Rose Kirk in July, 2007, Della Marie Brown, Anna Louise Hite and his parents. He is survived by a son David Horne, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a brother Charles Arthur Horney of Jamestown, Ohio, two sisters in law and three brothers in law. Graveside services and inurnment will be at the Silvercreek Township Cemetery in Jamestown, Ohio, at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Floyd.
