Florence Koch Hopkins (89), of Raleigh, NC and formerly of Shallotte, NC and Linwood, NJ passed away on Wednesday, August 16th at her home in Raleigh surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Hopkins was born in Camden, NJ on June 25, 1934, the daughter of Jacob L. and Miriam C. Koch. Mrs. Hopkins is survived by Robert M. Hopkins, Sr., her loving husband of 64 years.
Florence and Bob have six children: Cynthia A. Hopkins of Aurora, CO;Robert M. Hopkins Jr. (Tracy) of Galloway, NJ; Patricia G. Hopkins of Raleigh, NC;Laura M. Mullins (James) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; Andrew K. Hopkins (Nancy) of Angier NC and Richard J. Hopkins, Sr. of Sellersville, PA. Grandchildren: Jakob (Julia) and Alexander Backover; Christopher (Stephanie), Megan and Cara Hopkins; Richard J. Hopkins, Jr., Riley and Reese Hopkins and Great Granddaughter Helen Arcadia Hopkins. She is also survived by sisters Margaret Kenney of Summerfield, FL; Valeria Koch of Crystal River, FL; and Veronica Dailey of Maitland, FL and many nieces and nephews. Florence was predeceased by her mother and father and her sister, Caroline LeCates.
Florence retired as a Claims Associate Manager from Prudential Insurance in 1993 after 20 years of service. She also enjoyed a 25-year modeling career. She and Bob loved to travel the world, mostly while cruising the open seas. She and Bob spent countless years supporting their children's various activities and sports outings. "Momma Hops" home welcomed all who entered with open arms, she was well known for organizing the Christmas neighborhood festival of lights in Linwood. Florence loved to sing and was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows choir in Linwood, NJ, the St. Brendan choir in Shallotte, NC, the SeaNotes in Southport, NC and the Traveling Serendipity chorus out of Southport, NC.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic
Church, 5800 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh NC on (Tuesday, August 22, 11:00am). Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing NJ at the convenience of the family.
