With profound sadness we announce the passing of Ferrell, our loving mother on 5 June 2022.
She passed away with her family by her side at her residence in Columbus Indiana, at the age of 94.
Born in Evansville, Indiana to Clarence and Esther (Pohl) Mann. She met the love of her life, Carl Armstrong, while both playing in the high school orchestra and later in the Evansville Philharmonic. They continued their love of music throughout their 64 years of marriage until his death in 2010. Ferrell was an accomplished cellist, pianist, harpist and organist as well as an artist, specializing in pastels. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe to visit relatives and needlework, especially knitting, and initiated the Prayer Shawl Ministry at the First United Methodist Church in Columbus.
She was the loving and devoted mother of Carla Holdridge (Michael) of Fogelsville Pennsylvania, Rev. Gayle Burns (Tom) of Buckhorn Kentucky and Dawn Acton (Timothy) of Oolitic Indiana. Proud loving grandmother to nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three nephews. Preceded in death by her loving husband Carl, her parents, and her sister Joanne Nauert. She lived a full life as a homemaker and teacher for literacy programs, touching many students' lives in libraries and public schools in Indianapolis and New Albany Indiana. Her love of animals led her to volunteer at the Louisville Zoo, that love lasted through many pets over the years, especially Maggie, her beloved companion after Carl's passing.
