Fern Lucille McCormack, 97, passed away June 22, 2021, at her home in Pocatello. She hoped to make it to her 98th birthday but died just short of that goal.
Fern was born in Pocatello, Idaho on July 16, 1923. She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1942. During her teen years she broke wild horses to earn money. She loved horses and her home was filled with all kinds of horse memorabilia, statues, pictures, etc.
Fern married Larry L McCormack on June 1, 1943, and they lived in Pocatello the rest of their lives. They shared a love of hunting, fishing, bowling, and golf.
She was a member of the Riverside Ladies Golf Association and was the handicap chairman. She worked at Montgomery Ward in the hardware and plumbing department for many years, then managed Roy's plumbing until the shop closed. She finished out her work career at Lamb Weston.
Fern loved to travel. After Larry passed away in 2005, she and her daughter set a goal to visit every state in the nation. For the last 10 years she spent the winters in Yuma, Arizona. She loved being a "Snowbird" and made many friends from across the US and Canada. She outlived Larry and all of their relatives and friends. She often referred to herself as "the last one".
Fern was a great lady with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to play games of any kind. She loved her family and made an impact on each of them. She made each of her grandchildren feel like they were her favorite. She was the matriarch of the family and will be greatly missed.
Fern is survived by her four children, Larry (Tammy) McCormack, Deb (Pat) Carney, and Sherry Viles, all of Pocatello, and Richard (Sandy) McCormack, Magna, Utah; her forever daughter-in-law, Kerry McCormack, Boise, Idaho; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Heritage Hospice for their care during these last months.
Graveside services will be held on Fern's 98th birthday, July 16, 2021, at 11 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. in Pocatello, where she will be laid to rest next to Larry. A celebration of life will be held immediately after with the location to be determined. More information will follow.
