Ferdinand married Linda (Klingelhofer) on October 23, 1971. Together they have lived and worked on their farm near Wealthwood while raising their 3 children. Ferd valued hard work and he worked at many different jobs over a long span of years, starting when he was quite young, since his own father passed away when he was 9. He worked at bowling alleys and a feed supplier as a teen. Ferd joined the Army when he was 16, making it all the way to Korea before the Army discovered his age and sent him home. He then worked for Zontelli Brothers Construction stringing new power lines across parts of Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana. Ferd joined the Army again at age 21 and served a tour in Korea. Returning home, he worked for different mines in the Cuyuna and Mesabi Iron Ranges. Ferd attended the University of Minnesota in the Twin cities for several years in the 1960s and during this time he went to work for Control Data as an early computer programmer. He eventually became a union carpenter, working on many large building projects in the Twin Cities including the Target Center, Canterbury Downs, the Pillsbury Building, and many of the Raddison hotels. He retired from the Carpenters' union in the 1980s and joined the Teamsters' working road construction, where he worked until his retirement in 2007 at the age of 76. Ferd enjoyed hunting and fishing, telling stories to his children and grandchildren, playing cards, and taking care of his animals including cows, llamas, a mule, and especially his dogs. He was preceded in death by his brothers Rex and August Math and his sister Bonnie Glasgow. Ferd is survived by his wife Linda and their children, Paula (Mike) Braun of Pillager, MN, Henry (Sheri) Math of Pleasant Hill, MO, Carl Math of Aitkin, MN, and grandchildren: Ari, Ella, Norah, Alyssa, Lillie, Garrett, Cierra, Jack; sister Velma (Rodney) Rynearson of Frankenmuth, MI.
