Felipe (Phillip) Medrano Castillo passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022 at Granite Mesa Senior Healthcare Facility. Phillip was born in Stonewall, Texas on May 26, 1934. He met his wife, Amelia Ontiveroz, of Fredericksburg, Texas and they were married on April 30, 1955. Phillip and Amelia had 5 children: Josie (Erick) Middleton, Gloria Jean Castillo, Phillip Jr (Vivian) Castillo, Patrick (Michelle) Castillo, and Sonia Castillo. Phillip is survived by his wife Amelia, 5 children, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Phillip's early life was spent on various hill country ranches. Later, he gained employment with G and G construction in San Antonio, Texas. He was on the project that built Hwy 71 to Llano. During this time, he learned considerable knowledge about the construction field and eventually moved into a supervisor role. It was a time in his life that he was very proud of and talked about often.
After his employment with G and G, he went to work for Malcom Levi on the Paleface Ranch located in Spicewood, Texas. He clerked at the Paleface store and did various jobs on the ranch. He was well known for his barbecue that they sold at the store and helped oversee the rental of fishing cabins and daily activities at the fishing docks. This used to be located just below the Hwy 71 Bridge where it crosses the Pedernales River.
Later, Phillip went on to work for himself in the construction field. He created FMC (a foundation concrete company) where he specialized in pouring foundations for homes and boat slips through the Hill Country and Highland Lakes area. He later worked for and retired from the Street and Bridge Division of the City of Austin.
Phillip enjoyed fishing with his family and hosting huge fish fries attended by friends and family. He also enjoyed deer hunting, trips to Colorado for fall elk hunts, and playing dominoes.
Phillip loved his family, and together with his wife, Amelia, they provided their kids with a great childhood and lots of cherished memories.
