On October 29, 1955 she married Maurice Paul "Fearless" Wassenberg. She started her career as a floor nurse at the Randall Hospital in Marysville. In Marysville, Evelyn continued her volunteer work visiting nursing homes. She was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and Altar Society. As her health declined, she moved into assisted living at Cambridge Place in Marysville. While there, she continued her volunteer service by leading the weekly rosary and ensuring the bird bath was always full. She thoroughly enjoyed watched the birds and squirrels outside her window.
