Evelyn Boyce Sanders Sappenfield, 94, of Forest City, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
Born March 22, 1928, in Pageland, SC, she was the daughter of the late Boyce Heath and Annie Hicks Sanders. She was preceded in death by her son, James A. Sappenfield, III, and her sister and best friend, Rachel Sanders Fuller.
Evelyn and her family moved to Kannapolis, NC where she met her future husband of 71 years, James A. "Jim" Sappenfield, on a blind date. They were later married at Kimball Memorial Lutheran Church in Kannapolis. They moved to Memphis, TN for Dr. Sappenfield to attend optometry school and, upon completion, moved to Forest City where they chose to live and raise their family. She was an active member of Advent Lutheran Church in Spindale particularly enjoying providing Christmas wreaths for the windows every Christmas season.
Evelyn was an avid reader who very much enjoyed collecting antiques, playing bridge with her friends, and looking after her three boys. She loved her family dearly and provided an ideal home for them to live. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, aunt and daughter who always had a smile on her face, kind words to say and a loving nature that everyone enjoyed. She welcomed people into her home with open arms and a warm hospitality that always made everyone feel comfortable.
Evelyn is survived by her dear husband, Jim; her beloved sons, Jeffrey Scott Sappenfield and wife, Patti, and Craig Heath Sappenfield and wife, Barbara; daughter-in-law, Susan; grandchildren, Lindsay, Jimmy, Lauren, CJ, Luke, Paige and Paxton; nine great-grandchildren and two nieces, Kelly and Kyle.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Cool Springs Cemetery in Forest City with Reverend Dave Hinkleman officiating.
